First International Conference on Marine Flavobacteria

03 June 2018

Cargèse (Corsica, France)

It is with great pleasure that we announce that the First International Conference on Marine Flavobacteria will be held in Cargèse (Corsica, France), on June 4-8 2018.

Bacteria belonging to the family Flavobacteriaceae are an important and abundant component of heterotrophic marine bacterial communities. They are found in the water column, in tidal flat sediments or at the surface of marine algae, plants and animals. Several species are major pathogens of fish whereas others are key actors of the degradation of marine organic matter playing a significant role in these ecosystems.

Our knowledge regarding marine flavobacteria has been boosted by the “OMIC” revolution and many complete genomes are now available, confirming the huge diversity of this bacterial clade. At an international level, some species have emerged as model organisms and are now subjected to intensive biological studies.

However, the scientific community working on marine flavobacteria is rather small and fragmented. The congress “Marine Flavobacteria – Cargese - 2018” aims at gathering the most active scientists on the different aspects of the biology of these fascinating microorganisms.

The focus will be on recent discoveries and open questions that provoke curiosity and require new research. The workshop will be held in an informal scientific community atmosphere and will encourage free discussion and presentation of preliminary or unpublished research and ideas.
